Political Evacuation Experience

2020.08.02 05:20 e_K_i_c_k_s Political Evacuation Experience

Wow - where to begin - I’ve just read a really informative post from another user that almost echoes my experience so I’ll try not to drag on but I hope that anyone else seeing this will consider another choice before purchasing insurance through Safety Wing.
I’ve purchased travel insurance with Safety Wing on 2 seperate occasions
Pros : • can be purchased outside home country •rolling coverage - no need to have an end date !! •excellent and responsive customer service through their email and chat service
Cons : Tokio Marine - the underwriter
Covid 19 specifics I was travelling with my husband and 2 year old when we got the update from Safety Wing about political evacuation benefit in our coverage - how amazing! What great communication!!
well hold on because you’re about to get royally f**ked -
We called a representative to clarify what coverage we had - they were great and honest - they said because their was an influx of customers needing to utilise this evacuation benefit and we only had 3 days before the 10day cut off for the CDC warning for our location (Spain) and as flights were being cancelled and borders were closing - that it would be “faster” for us to organise our own travel and then apply for reimbursement... Great... or so we thought.
This isn’t our first rodeo so I asked a bunch of questions for clarification including where we could fly to ( from Aus and NZ respectively but needing to travel together to end destination) - was there a $ limit to each pax flight coverage in the benefit, how was our kid covered, etc etc All answered, all straightforward.
We begin transit - it takes us 6 flights, a couple of taxis and a night in a hotel, 50+ hours to get back to NZ. During our transit one of the flight legs we have booked is cancelled, we can’t rebook it as we are about to board a flight - Safety Wing rebook this leg only and cover the cost instantly. A++
We get back to NZ - submit all the receipts and paperwork - close to $8k AUD for the 3 of us. Then the fun begins. Tokio Marines client zone built in approx 1992 shows no active claims, we contact them, they say they never received a claim - lie - we advise them we have an email showing receipt of our claim. Their is an issue with the client zone and it will show soon - lie.
We receive an email in April asking us to fill out a new form specific to political evacuation and resubmit all receipts - this will speed up the claim Process - ( lie )- ahhhh ok - annoying but we do it.
Now the client zone shows our claim was “received” in May not March ... this is because we didn’t submit the “correct” form (lie) it didn’t exist in March.
We go back and forth and back and forth for coming up to 5 months now. They paid a portion of ONLY my claim - the EOBs (explanation of benefits) don’t match the receipts I submitted - they advise that taxis, hotel and baggage is not included - OK I can understand that - but the amount does not match the flight costs either - now they respond that when they cover flights they mean ONLY the flight - not the airline taxes and surcharges- even though they advise that they are aware it is impossible to purchase a ticket without these costs.
To date (131 days after submission) my husband and kids claims are PENDING, they’ve been “escalated” within the claim department 2 times with absolutely no result. Waiting patiently for the next bullshit reason they tell me.
I feel so defeated, this process has been so exhausting - it’s actually a real shame - Safety Wing had seemed amazing but all their competency is swiftly undone by any interaction with Tokio Marine.
Hindsight is a beautiful thing and so if you have to use them in future and there is another global pandemic I guess you could stay put and wait for them to book your transport - at least then you wouldn’t be out of pocket for 6 months and covering your own airline taxes 🤷🏽‍♀️✈️🤦🏾‍♀️

2020.01.29 20:52 amyranthlovely Japan Travel, The 2019-nCoV, And You: Guidelines On Travel During An Outbreak.

To better condense the available information to the current situation, we've opted to open a new Megathread, which is now pinned to the top of the page. Please join us there!

We have revamped the Megathread to better reflect the information that most tourists need to know right now, this includes information on the countries that are restricting travel to and from Japan. A backup of the original thread, with minor changes, is found in our FAQ, and will be updated as this situation unfolds.

As the CDC has now issued a Level 2 Warning for travel to Japan, we will be keeping a close eye on the situation and updating the information as frequently and concisely as possible. All comments and links are under Moderator review and removed or approved as necessary.

CONFIRMED CASES UPDATE: 03/10

As of this writing, there are 1,335 confirmed cases in Japan, 17 people have died. This is a combined total, with 639 infections occurring in Japan, and 696 affected from the Diamond Princess Cruise. NHK News Japan has a breakdown of existing cases in Japan by prefecture here. You will need to have a translation system turned on in your browser, as this page is direct from the NHK in Japan - not the english website. This information is provided by the Ministry of Heath in Japan, and the link is updated as necessary.
NHK World, the english subsidiary of NHK News Japan, has provided this graphic of a breakdown of cases in Japan.
The Johns Hopkins CSSE map will be our only source for confirmation of cases going forward – the link can be found here.

TOURISM UPDATE 03/11

They are also able to respond to concerns regarding COVID-19. 【Telephone】050-3816-2787(from overseas:+81-50-3816-2787) 【Hours】available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year 【Available languages】English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese
More closures and extensions of closures are coming through, please keep an eye on the Closures Thread, pinned at the top of the comments for more information.

TOURISM UPDATE 03/10

"Japan's Cabinet OKs bill to give Prime Minister ability to declare emergency amid virus outbreak." THIS IS NOT A STATE OF EMERGENCY. PLEASE READ THE LINK ABOVE, OR OUR SUMMARY BELOW:
"The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a bill that would enable Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to declare a state of emergency, if needed, as Japan scrambles to stop the spread of the new coronavirus. Abe, who faced criticism for being too relaxed in his initial response to the outbreak, has sought the power to prepare for a “worst case scenario.”
"Moreover, the prime minister has extended a government request to event organizers nationwide to refrain from holding such gatherings by about 10 days. The request was initially until March 19."
"The legal change would allow the prime minister to declare a state of emergency lasting up to two years if coronavirus infections spread rapidly across the country and fears are raised of a grave impact on people’s lives and the economy."
"Once an emergency is declared, prefectural governors can instruct residents to stay indoors and ask for schools to close and events to be canceled."
"Local governments can also demand that essential supplies such as medicine and food be sold to them. They can temporarily take over private land and facilities to provide medical care."
"Abe has already requested that schools across the nation close and big sports and cultural events be canceled or postponed. But under the current law, the government does not have the legal power to enforce school closures or event cancellations."
"The main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Democratic Party for the People say the prime minister should seek prior parliamentary approval before any declaration of a state of emergency."
Once again, this bill does not enact a State of Emergency for the country, it merely means to reflect and strengthen the laws put in place from previous viral outbreaks in Japan.
Also of note is the recommendation by a panel of experts to continue closures for another 10 days beyond what has already been noted in the comments. We will be updating the closures thread as necessary as companies extend the break.

TOURISM UPDATE 03/08

Border control increase begins today in Japan. NHK has an article on the general guidelines for border control at this time.
We have reprinted the article in full below.
Japan increased border control measures on Monday in an effort to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
The government is asking people arriving from China and South Korea, including Japanese nationals, to stay at home or other private accommodation for two weeks at their own expense.
Officials are asking those travelers to refrain from using public transportation, including planes, trains, buses and taxis, and use private or rental cars from the airport of their entry to their homes or accommodation facilities.
Visitors are asked to declare to quarantine officials where they will stay during the first two weeks as well as their means of transportation from the airport. They will be asked to remain at the airport until arrangements are ready.
During the two-week period they will be asked to check their health daily. If they develop a fever and other symptoms they are asked to call a consultation center and visit a designated hospital.
The measures are expected to remain in effect until the end of this month. They are not legally-binding, but the health ministry is asking for cooperation.
Once again, we would advise if you have a stopover in any of the affected countries (China, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau - named specifically.) that you contact your airline to change your flight as soon as possible. These measures will be in force until the end of this month at the very least.

TOURISM UPDATE 03/06

"Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe: "We will ask people entering Japan from the two countries to stay at places designated by the quarantine chief for two weeks and not to use public transportation systems in the country."
A more in depth explanation of the restrictions is explained here. We have reprinted the article below:
"Japan will request that people arriving from South Korea and China be quarantined for two weeks at designated facilities in Japan to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Thursday."
“We will strengthen immigration quarantines on people from the two countries,” Abe told a Cabinet-level task force meeting on the virus.
“We will ask them to stay in designated areas for two weeks and not to use public transport in the country.”
"The measure will take effect at 12:00 a.m. on March 9 and last through March 31, he said."
"The government is calling for tourists from China, where the virus emerged and South Korea, which has been hard hit by the outbreak, to put off travel to Japan and will cancel visas for travelers from the two countries, Abe said."
“In order to reduce the amount of in-bound travel from China and South Korea, we will limit arrival destinations for aircraft from the two countries to Narita and Kansai airports,” he said.
The visa suspensions will effectively ban all Chinese nationals from entering Japan.
“We will suspend transport of passengers by ship and cancel temporary and multiple-entry visas that have already been issued,” Abe said.
Flights from China and South Korea will be able to land only in Narita Airport near Tokyo and Osaka’s Kansai Airport, he said. Abe also said that bans on entering Japan will be expanded to foreign nationals who have been in any part of South Korea or Iran.
This appears to be seperate from a bigger bill aimed at reducing the number of overall tourists at this moment to halt the spread of the virus. The NHK has posted an article on the other measures of the bill, and how it will allow the Government to enact a State Of Emergency - giving them the power to "control some businesses' operating hours, close schools and instruct people to stay indoors. Authorities would also be able to use buildings and land without their owners' consent for medical purposes."
In short, if you are a Korean or Chinese National, you will not be allowed to enter the country without facing a 14 day quarantine. Any planes arriving from either location will only be processed at either Narita or Kansai Airport, starting March 9th, and lasting until March 31st. It will also include visitors from Hong Kong and Macau, as well as Japanese Nationals coming from these countries - we are assuming this includes those returning from vacation in those areas. Entry Visas are being cancelled, for China, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Iran which sounds like it means you will be quarantined at the border, and could be sent home after the 14 days are up.
If you have a flight with a stopover in either country, you would be wise to contact your airline right away and arrange to either fly direct, or re-route through a different area to avoid getting caught up in the quarantine. We have no confirmation that stopovers are excluded OR included in this requirement, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

TOURISM UPDATE 02/29

More temporary closures and cancellations have been added to the list, please click here to go directly to the comment. We are updating this list as information comes in, and have split the lists by area.

TOURISM UPDATE 02/28

The Japanese Government has rolled out requirements to help curb the spread of the virus, as the next two weeks are crucial for transmission within the country. Presumably, this is why we are currently seeing an increase in closures and cancellations by locations that would normally draw crowds of tourists and locals, such as museums and sports events.
The Government is asking people to take even more care when in public with frequent handwashing and sanitizing, and wearing a mask if you plan to be out in large crowds for long periods of time. As tourists, you should consistently perform with the utmost caution to follow these rules to help prevent yourself from catching the virus. The NHK has provided a very helpful article (with video!) that explains how to wash your hands properly and thoroughly to help break down the chain of bacteria and viruses, and how to wear a mask properly to help stop the spread of infection.
We'd like to remind you that while these measures are effective when applied consistently, they will not necessarily prevent you from catching the virus in the aforementioned "large crowds" that the Health Ministry is asking people to avoid. This information is intended as a guideline to help prevent transmission, but certain risk groups should see this as a warning that the Government is expecting things to get worse before they get better, and they should closely look at the options for travel, as the best method for not catching COVID-19 in Japan is to not go at this time.

TOURISM UPDATE 02/23

The CDC has raised the alert level for travel to Japan to Level 2. This means they are advising that tourists practice enhanced measures to protect themselves from the spread of the virus. Please check the link above for more information. If you are older or have pre-existing health conditions, the CDC now also firmly recommends reconsidering travel to Japan.
If a potential quarantine on arrival home after your trip would disrupt your life enough to cause hardship (job loss, arranging last minute care for family/pets, possible transmission to vulnerable individuals) we firmly recommend that you postpone travel at this time.

TOURISM UPDATE 02/21

Transmission and hospitalization in children under the age of 10 has been confirmed in Sapporo, with 3 recent cases being revealed. The Japan Times has more information here. One child is a preschooler who returned from Wuhan with his parents on a chartered evacuation flight in January, and the child is recovering from a mild infection. The other two cases are local to Hokkaido, one is under the age of 10, the other is presumed to be a bit older, but reported to be elementary school aged. Both have been hospitalized and are recovering. We would urge you to confirm with your pediatrician or family physician before travel with children to Japan in the face of this news. It has been reported that children are not often afflicted, or may have mild symptoms, but that does not equate immunity to the virus - as shown here.

TOURISM UPDATE 02/04:

The JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) is advising any and all tourists arriving in Japan to have travel health insurance in case they require treatment or hospitalization as a result of contracting the virus. The Government of Japan will NOT cover the costs associated with treatment during this time, and you will be required to pay out of pocket should an infection occur, and you have no insurance.
More information can be found at the following link from the JNTO, along with links to companies that will provide travel health insurance IN Japan on arrival.
We strongly recommend you add Trip Cancellation and Travel Health Insurance to your budget before you depart - for precisely this kind of occurrence. Please take the time to research travel insurance, and confirm with your bank or personal health care plan what is covered, or not covered, and purchase a plan that meets your needs in accordance with your trip.

TOURISM UPDATE 01/31:

The NHK has published an article reporting that JNTO has a phone number to call should tourists currently in Japan require assistance. We would not recommend contacting this number if you are not currently in the country, as this line is intended to assist with possible cases and have them directed to medical facilities for treatment. The article has been removed, but we have a link to the phone numbers here. There is also a link to the JNTO for further information, if needed.
"The Japan National Tourism Organization is offering phone consultation services for foreign tourists who are concerned about the new strain of coronavirus."
"The Japan Visitor Hotline offers 24-hour services in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean."
"The hotline can refer callers who may be infected with the virus to the nearest medical institution. It also provides information on measures to prevent infection such as hand washing and gargling."
"The organization encourages foreign tourists to call if they have any concerns."
"The hotline number is 050-3816-2787."

General Information

"What is COVID-19? How does it affect me?"

The FAQ from the CDC on COVID-19 is here.
The symptoms more frequently noted include the following:
  • High fever.
  • Shortness of Breath. This is an absolute call to health authorities, if you or anyone in your travel group experiences this symptom you should be notifying staff of your hotel/hostel right away for medical assistance.
  • Coughing, with or without phlegm. If you begin to cough, and feel very congested in the chest quickly, do not delay in notifying health authorities. Pneumonia is one of the reasons why this flu is deadly in certain people, and the CDC has already recorded an instance in China where a healthy 36 year old victim died from pneumonia brought on by the virus. There is currently no treatment for this virus, aside from supportive care to relieve symptoms. Any cases diagnosed with pneumonia are generally hospitalized.
The recommendations for curbing the spread of COVID-19 is detailed on this page.
Major risks with this virus are:
  • Transmission from person to person has been noted in Japan.
  • It can take up to 14 days before you show ANY symptoms, meaning that your body is shedding the virus in bodily fluids such as exhalation (commonly called aerosol), mucus from the nose and mouth, and fecal matter.
  • Carriers of the virus can be asymptomatic (not showing any symptoms like sneezing/coughing) while they are transmitting the virus to others.
The crux of curbing any virus is to wash your hands, or use sanitizer on a frequent basis when touching items in public. Also:
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with hands that have not been washed or sanitized.
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your arm, and/or a tissue. Throw the tissue away, and wash your hands afterwards.
  • If you are opening doors and wish to avoid picking up anything from door handles, use your elbow or foot to push the door open if possible.

“I’m traveling to Japan in March/April/May. Should I cancel my trip and reschedule?”

If you are travelling from China, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, or Iran, please pay special attention to the update from 03/06. Japan is currently moving to block tourists from those regions to control the spread of the virus within the country. You will be quarantined and possibly sent home after the 14 days is up, as travel visas for those countries are being cancelled as of 03/09. Please contact your airline for more information. In the CDC Level 2 Warning above, they have specifically advised that individuals with pre-existing health problems look to cancel any non-essential travel to Japan at this time. We have noted other instances in the FAQ and provided further information. Some examples include:**
  • If you have a compromised immune system, have asthma, are prone to serious lung infections, are long-term heavy smokers, or reside full-time with anyone in your home that has any of those health concerns.
  • If you are traveling with anyone under the age of 5, or over the age of 50-60, and/or they would be considered in a risk group for the seasonal flu.
  • If you do not have a Trip Cancellation, or Travel Health Insurance package prior to departure, you should strongly reconsider not purchasing it prior to leaving your home country. On February 4th, the JNTO confirmed that tourists without travel health insurance would not be covered by the Japanese Government for treatment if infection occurred, and the patient will have to pay out of pocket for any treatment required. Please see the FAQ for information on obtaining insurance on arrival in Japan from either Tokio Marine, or Sompo Japan Nipponkoa. Note that you will only be able to access either website linked through JNTO on arrival in Japan.
  • If you are in any way concerned about contracting an illness that would put you out of commission for your entire trip, and may require hospitalization. Some users have already informed us that they are being told they would be subject to a mandatory 14 day self-quarantine at home on return from their trip. If you would not able to comply with those restrictions on arrival from Japan, (work, family, pet responsibilities for instance) you will want to seriously reconsider your trip.

”I’m traveling for the Olympics! Is this going to affect the Games? What do I do?”

At this time, there is no clear indication that the Olympics will be affected. The IOC's spokesperson did an interview with the Associated Press on the possibility that the games could be postponed or moved to a different city, and it was noted it was far more likely they would be cancelled outright. (IOC Member Casts Doubt on Postponing Or Moving Tokyo Games - Associated Press.) This is not a solid YES or NO at this time. We will update when necessary if the situation changes.

”I’m currently in Japan, and have been feeling unwell, as outlined in the CDC links above. What do I do?”

Please contact the phone number posted above for assistance. The number is a direct line to the JNTO, who is working in partnership with public health agencies in Japan, and they will assess you and direct you to proper medical facilities for treatment. Please do not attempt to shelter in place without notifying the proper health authorities, as you could still be transmitting the virus to others, including other tourists, staff, and the general public.

2019.07.26 19:40 psychofistface I was “Maid of Honor” to a Bridezilla. Here’s my story.

Edit: Thanks for the gold and silver! I’m humbled you guys think this sort of insanity is worth the read, and thanks to everyone that has offered me supportive comments.
And for those who requested a tl;dr: my ex’s sister tried to get married in less than a month, essentially made me do everything for her because her actual MOH was nowhere to be found, had several meltdowns, accused me of trying to fuck her husband, and is all around a shitty human being.
This was in 2018, and the bride was my ex’s sister. They had been engaged for nearly four years, and together overall for eight. They saved up basically nothing—all they did was joint host a karaoke night once a week, they lived free rent in his parents’ garage, and both sets of parents paid for whatever they wanted. Neither of them wanted to find better work. They were “supposedly” doing a destination wedding this past May but because they had found out April last year that someone in the family was very ill, they decided they’d move up the wedding. Which I completely understand, and is a great reason. They decided on the upcoming September. They did not begin planning, because these people are the laziest and most delusional people I’ve ever met in my life (more on that in a sec) until the second week of August.
So before I truly get into it, I need to explain my ex’s sister. She’s a pathological liar whose tales include being the official makeup artist for Skrillex when she was 13 (she didn’t know how to do makeup until she was 27, when I taught her), she claims to have slept with Tom Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel when she was 15 and that Bill Kaulitz gave her his number but she lost it, and on a way darker note: when a guy from high school turned her down, she tried to tell everyone that he had herpes. When another dude turned her down after hooking up with her, she lied about sexual assault (I need to stress very heavily that as a survivor myself I adamantly refuse to make any sort of accusation against someone like this unless it can be unequivocally proven that they are lying. It was.) She constantly lies about having bipolar disorder to justify her shitty behavior and piggybacks off of other people’s problems to gain sympathy (for example, at one point she discovered I had very recently lost a baby. She then, instead of consoling me, told me about her own miscarriage—that became an abortion within 20 minutes of finding out I had to medically terminate—for two hours in graphic detail. The details changed often). She also believes she is a professional singer because of her karaoke night once a week and has tried out for The Voice several times, and was rejected each time. She also is absolutely convinced every man wants her so she’s always trying to play weird mind games with dudes. Her husband 100% supports everything she does, and she is absolutely controlling over him to the point to where if any girl talks to him she will insert herself into the conversation. We’ll call them Shannon and Mark.
When Shannon asked me to be her MOH, this is exactly what she told me: “I technically already asked (let’s call her) Hayley to be my MOH, but she hasn’t been involved with any of the planning and we’ve been fighting. So Hayley will still be the MOH but you’ll help me plan. You’re really good at it.” I agreed because whatever, I was dating her brother. I wanted to be supportive.
So we have less than a month to plan. They decide they want to have the wedding in her parents’ backyard so building commences. My ex, his father, the groom’s brother, his best man, and at times myself (I still worked and didn’t live there at the time) are all building the arches, painting things, helping set up the walkway and platform, hanging lights and strands of rose petals, all of this shit. The bride, the groom, and her mom all stay in the bedroom getting high and “planning”. During this entire time, if we weren’t moving fast enough Shannon would start throwing fits and yelling at people and crying saying we were ruining her wedding. During this planning, Shannon pulls me aside and accuses me of trying to fuck her husband and saying I’d been in love with him for years. This is incredibly far from the truth, as I had found him revolting and insufferably annoying.
About a week and a half before the wedding, Shannon tells me I need to put together a group chat between her, myself, Hayley (the actual MOH) and Deeana (her FBIL’s girlfriend, that Shannon actually thought was low class and “ghetto” and hated), and organize a shopping day to get bridesmaids dresses. Hayley never even bothers responding and Deeana says she’ll be there. Shannon rolls her eyes and says she doubts it. The day of, Shannon picks me up at 7am so we can “get Starbucks and girl talk” and get ready for the others at her parents’ house.
And no one showed up.
Hayley was absolutely unreachable...and lived across the street from Shannon’s parents, so we knew she was home. Shannon went and banged on Hayley’s front door for ten minutes to no avail, and Deeana didn’t show up at all. Shannon was crushed, I felt terrible, and we went to the mall. Shannon kept insisting her shade was “dusty rose” without ever choosing to elaborate on what that meant and threw a hissy fit whenever I brought out anything she didn’t like. At one point she pulled out a bridesmaid bouquet that she made and started shoving it up to random dresses. I pulled out this maxi dress and it matched, she was over the moon, cool. I asked for the dress in two other sizes, and it was the last they had in stock. It wasn’t on the website because it was on clearance and out of season. Normal people would accept defeat but not Shannon. No, Shannon had me call every Windsor within 60 miles to find this dress for Hayley and Deeana. And then had me drive with her to go get them. I had to drive 47 miles to get a damn dress and sit through an awkward lunch with Shannon’s grandma who loathes me and purposely called me by the wrong name to get on my nerves.
The kicker was, the day of? I couldn’t afford my $30 dress because I had just paid a bunch of bills. Shannon offered to pay, and then immediately afterward handed me the receipt and told me I owed her everything including tax and gas money for picking me up. Which she had also offered to do. This becomes a theme because the next day she had us all meet up to buy shoes. Hayley and Deeana make it this time, and Shannon knew I was still broke so she covered the $20 shoes, handed me the receipt, and tells me to pay her back. Then she dragged me to a beauty supply store so she could buy hair extensions. She wanted 18” inch hair extensions and she wanted them to increase volume on her very damaged, slightly melted platinum blonde hair that she had been bleaching by herself for 3 years (she fancied herself a hair stylist because of google. I went to school for it and she would constantly deride and berate me when I’d offer her tips, and then regurgitate them back to me later as if she had always known.) She argued with me about prices, bought cheap hair, and then handed me the stack to sew into clip ins for her. And then tells me she’s taking it to a professional stylist to have them color treated to match her fucked up hair. She does not offer me any sort of payment for this service, considered it a favor to the bride, and then told me I still owed her for the shoes and dress because she had to spend $90 of her own money on her extensions.
At this point I know you guys might be thinking, “wait OP you said so yourself, she only worked one night a week.” Yes. She did. But his parents, and her parents, paid for the entire wedding. Literally everything. They didn’t invest a dime. She also took in enough in one night that I made in a week. She had the money, she’s the kind of person who will divide the cost of a pack of smokes by the amount of cigarettes in the pack and then Venmo you the cost per cig you bum off her, even if she’s smoked half of yours the day before.
Three days later was the bachelorette party. Hayley planned this one but Shannon had me plan the backup. This is the first time Hayley or Deeana showed up for anything other than the shoes. We go to a local Mexican place, and then go drive 45 minutes away to meet up with Shannon’s “karaoke mentor” and the dude he was cheating on his wife with to attend their karaoke night. It’s a dive bar where no one is under the age of 45 and everyone looks like Spongebob without water, Shannon is wearing a hot pink feather boa and a crown of pink penises, waltzes up to the mic and hijacks the list to sing show tunes. The song before her was a Johnny Cash song, to give some insight on how out of place we were. Some dude starts hitting on us—first Hayley, then Deeana, and then he sees me and completely drops his attention from our entire group to make me his sole target of unwanted affection. This pisses off Shannon, who isn’t being paid attention to, enough to where she furnished a penis confetti gun, puts it right next to the dude’s ear, and then fires while screaming “DICKS!!!” at the top of her lungs.
Then she decides that she’s over it and isn’t having fun because no one bought her drinks and no one congratulated her on her songs. So she made us all get back into the car, drive back to our city, and crash Mark’s bachelor party to see what he was up to. At this point, Deeana disappears entirely and runs off with Mark’s brother. Mark, like an idiot, had eaten 3/4ths of an edible and was borderline catatonic at an arcade. My ex, who was forced by Shannon to attend the bachelor party for Mark even though he had been building at all hours of the day save for sleeping and going to work, was nowhere to be found—he had bailed at 9pm, it was midnight, and she demands I call him to discern his whereabouts. I did, he was asleep, and because I was the DD for Shannon he says he wouldn’t come get me (I didn’t ask). She throws a fit and takes him home, and thus ends the bachelorette party.
The rehearsal dinner comes around and lo and behold...the bridesmaids and groomsmen all make it for once. We’re all in her parents’ backyard. And we go through the rehearsal while chomping down pizza. Not too bad, the wedding seems like it’s gonna go well.
Now here’s the wedding:
First off. No one showed up except all of her grandparents (she had three sets because her paternal grandparents divorced), his parents, one of her cousins, my ex’s best friend, her uncle and his girlfriend (to take photos) and Mark’s aunt. Her aunt and uncle straight up told her they weren’t going to miss seeing The Eagles for her wedding. Glenn Frey was dead by then, so this just goes to show how little anyone cared about this wedding.
She also didn’t bother to check the weather report, and it was WINDY. To the point to where table settings were being blown away and the decorations were precariously swinging back and forth. Nevertheless, Shannon persisted. She made me do everyone’s makeup (at no compensation, even though I usually charge a fee), and also had me help set up the decor in the backyard. One of the centerpieces we had made ended up being knocked over by the wind and she had a full scale meltdown. Screaming, crying, throwing a tantrum, demanding her brother gets her a new vase, the whole shebang. Her mom tells her to calm down and tells my ex not to get the vase, and Shannon. Blows. UP. About this time I’ve had enough of her shit and within an hour before the ceremony had singlehandedly finished off a bottle of cheap champagne from Kroger and I was feeling pretty good about the wedding. My ex bought her a vase, she starts screaming at us about how we need to get into our places and we need to be on cue. She eyes me in particular and tells me I need to mind my steps because she can’t have me rolling my ankle and ruining her wedding (this has nothing to do with the drinks I’d had, I have a weak right ankle that frequently rolls or buckles under me if I’m in heels or putting too much pressure on it. Everyone is well aware of it because I’ve eaten shit because of it often, including during the rehearsal dinner. It was already swollen and sore at the wedding.) I end up almost waddling to my spot and, when Shannon wasn’t looking, took off my shoes, putting them on again just for photos, and then taking them off. She found out later and got heated but, bitch I’m injured and I just did all this shit for you for free. No one could tell I wasn’t wearing your dumbass shoes, the gown was floor length.
And then there’s speeches. There’s like ten people at this wedding, everyone made a speech. Shannon had me draft a speech in advance, corrected and proofread it, and would only let me read the speech she approved of. And then had me read it last because Mark’s brother made everyone super uncomfortable but by then everyone was noticeably not interested and just wanted to eat and hang out. I didn’t blame them at all, rushed through my speech, and grabbed food. They tried to make all the guests sing karaoke, no one wanted to, so Shannon got mad.
At the end of the night, they tipped their caterers in shitty weed and left.
The one good thing is the sick relative made it. I liked that person a lot, and I really just endured this madness for them. They ended up passing two weeks after the wedding, which we were all devastated by.

2018.11.09 09:20 goriunovd Hyper and WebSocket on single server.

Hi i am trying to build Web server with Websocket. I have spent some time researching about how to connect Hyper and WebSocket however have not found anything useful (up to date). The main problem which i get is that `service_fn` closure should always return response, and most of the WebSocket libraries require to have access to the connection. Could some one explain how do i use hyper for http (REST) and tokio-tungstenite as a websocket library together. Thank you :)

Location: Missouri, USA
Sorry for the long title. I have an insurance through Tokio Marine HCC (they have a partnership with internationalstudentinsurance.com; my plan details are here: https://www.internationalstudentinsurance.com/brochures/pdf/student-secure-doc-budget.pdf) and I have held a policy with them for several years.
On 6/30/2017 (yes, one YEAR ago) I had to go to the ER at around 11:45pm and I was discharged at 2:00am on 7/1/2017. I had a policy with the company that ended on 6/30 and the same policy with a new ID number starting 7/1.
They kept denying my claims all this while that resulted in the bills going into collections, but they finally settled parts of the bills that say 6/30.
However, they say that they cannot pay anything that says 7/1 because (1) For the first policy ending 6/30, it is "out of service date", (understandable) and (2) For the policy starting 7/1, it is "a pre-existing" condition
The point to note here is that it is the SAME company and the SAME policy with a different ID number due to the month changing during my time at ER.
Advice, please? There is NO way I can afford it and I am worried about the implications when I've already received a letter from the collection agency.

2018.01.25 01:59 bushwacka151 Firearms of Siege Part 2: Rifles

This is Part 2 of a series of posts regarding the firearms of Rainbow Six: Siege.
Part 1: Pistols and Introduction
Assault Rifles
L85A2: The Enfield L85 is a 5.56x45mm assault rifle produced exclusively as the standard issue rifle for the UK military forces. It has notoriously bad ergonomics but is a large step up from the L85A1, which was considered the worst modern military service rifle. It uses NATO STANAG standard magazines, and is impossible to convert for a left-handed user (with “bullpup” designs, the action behind the trigger group, shells ejecting on the right side would go right into the face of a left-handed shooter).
”F2” FAMAS F1: Exclusively produced to be the standard issue rifle of the French armed forces (semi-automatic versions are available on the civilian market), the FAMAS utilizes STANAG magazines (5.56x45mm) and is in a bullpup configuration that can be converted for left hand use. The French armed forces have since transitioned to the more reliable G36. (Thank you u/Cancer-squadron for the updated info!)
G36C: Made by Heckler and Koch, the G36 rifle series fires the NATO standard 5.56x45mm cartridge, but used proprietary magazines. It was the standard issue rifle of the German armed forces up until last year, they are now in the process of converting to a different HK design. It is used by some elite police forces around the world, and the French armed forces. The C model used ingame has a shorter barrel and folding stock.
”AR33” HK33A2: No longer made by HK, the HK33 rifle fires 5.56x45mm and utilizes the same operating mechanism as many other arms the company produced in the 50s and 60s, such as the MP5 and G3. It was designed to be a budget rifle to export and equip foreign militaries during decolonization, particularly in southeast Asia. It is still the standard issue rifle of Thailand.
”416-C Carbine” HK416C: The HK 416 is an AR-15 pattern rifle, utilizing STANAG 5.56x45mm magazines. It’s defining feature differentiating it from a typical AR-15 is the extremely reliable short-stroke gas piston operating system. The C model features a collapsing stock and 9” barrel, and is used by some elite military and police units.
AK-12: Produced by Kalashnikov, the AK-12 fires a 5.45x39mm cartridge and is the latest iteration of the AK design. It is currently being phased into service with regular Russian military forces. Addition from u/Gor9808: " Ingame model is a old prototype version of AK-12(2012) which was rejected by military during competition's tests for "Ратник" programm. This version has many features, like: both-sides fire-mod switches, charging handle may be placed on left or right side, mag release may be pressed by trigger finger, bolt stop\release mechanism for last bullet."
R4-C: The R4 is Remington’s AR-15 pattern rifle. The C model featured a heightened rate of fire and short CQB barrel, and was to be marketed to US special forces and elite police units until the company was purchased in 2007, the project ending. Like nearly all AR-15s it too uses STANAG 5.56x45mm magazines.
”552 Commando” Sig SG 552 Commando: The Sig 552 is the standard issue rifle of the Swiss armed forces, firing 5.56x45mm. The Commando model features a 10” barrel and folding stock, and is only available to special forces units.
556xi: Sig-Sauer manufactures their 556 series of rifles in Windham, NH, USA. It is derived from the Sig 550 alternate AR-15 competitor, with unique features making some parts not interchangeable, such as a side charging handle. It still fires the same 5.56x45mm cartridge from STANAG magazines. It is not currently used by any military or police forces, it offers no distinct advantages over a traditional AR-15 for its high price. (Corrected by u/Earl_cadogan)
”Aug A2” Steyr AUG A2: The AUG fires 5.56x45mm and is the standard issue rifle of Austria, Belgium, and Australia. It can be converted to left handed, but this takes additional parts and some time to do.
”C8-SFW” Colt Canada Model 933: An AR-15 pattern rifle optimized for CQB performance, with a high rate of fire from 5.56x45mm STANAG magazines. It is available in the inventory of Canadian special forces.
”Mk17 CQB” FN SCAR-H CQC: Firing 7.62x51mm (.308 Winchester), the SCAR-H is manufactured as a high-quality alternative to other full power AR-15 pattern rifles. The CQC model is shortened and lightened for combat in urban environments.
”PARA-308” IMBEL ParaFal: The FN FAL was the standard service rifle of the militaries of most NATO nations for the majority of the late Cold War, firing 7.62x51mm. Brazil produced variants of the FAL under license, continuing to do so later than the rest of NATO, NATO having switched to intermediate cartridges. One such model is the ParaFal, never used in military service, with a paratrooper stock and short barrel. (corrected by u/TokioHot)
”Type-89” Howa Type 89 F: As NATO made the switch to 5.56x45mm STANAG, Japan’s Self Defense Forces put into standard issue the Type 89, derived from the AR-18. The F model features a folding stock and is used by elite police units in Japan. Restrictions dating back to the end of WW2 did not allow the Japanese inventory to include magazines with a capacity over 20 rounds, up until reformations in 2016, which is reflected accurately ingame.
”C7E” Colt Canada C7: An AR-15 pattern rifle and was the standard issue rifle of the Canadian military until superceded by the C8. It also fires 5.56x45mm from STANAG magazines. Ingame it is inaccurately depicted to have select fire, and is furnished with Magpul aftermarket furniture.
K1A: Derived from the AR-18 and manufactured by Daewoo Industries (like nearly everything else in South Korea), the K1 (and newer K2) is the standard issue rifle of the ROK armed forces and fires 5.56x45mm from STANAG magazines. The K1A model is shortened and features a folding stock. Ingame it is inaccurately described as a “submachine gun,” however in the ROK inventory this is the designation it carries.
M762: Manufactured by Beryl in Poland, the M762 is an AK pattern rifle and was the standard issue rifle of the Polish military at one time. It fires 7.62x39mm, same as the original AKM. Ingame it has a custom aftermarket stock.
Designated Marksman Rifles
”417” HK 417: Manufactures by Heckler and Koch, this firearm is an AR-10 pattern rifle with the same unique gas system as the HK 416, but is rechambered for 7.62x51mm and accurized. It is in service as a DMR with multiple European militaries and police forces.
”OTs-03” SVU Dragunov: The SVD Dragunov firing 7.62x54R was the primary DMR of Eastern Bloc militaries for the majority of the Cold War and following years, and still used by some. In an attempt to modernize and keep it relevant in arsenals of first-class militaries, a small independent company manufactures SVUs with an already produced aftermarket bullpup conversion kit, HDX flip-up sight, and other features. It is employed in relatively small numbers by Russian military forces (credit to u/longshottie for this detail).
”CAMRS” C1A1 SLR: Upon the advent of intermediate cartridges and the phasing out of the FN FAL from NATO service, the UK and Commonwealth nations retained some of the rifles to modernize and keep in service as DMRs. The result is the C1A1 Self Loading Rifle, an accurized, semi-automatic only, 7.62x51mm rifle still used by the UK and Commonwealth nations militaries’ today.
SR-25: Manufactured by Knight’s Armament, the SR25 series of rifles are precision manufactured AR-10 pattern rifles in 7.62x51mm. They are used frequently by competition shooters, US Navy SEALs, and the US Secret Service.
”Mk 14 EBR” ROCK SOPMOD M14: The M14 rifle is a direct development from the M1 Garand and was the standard US service rifle for a large portion of the middle of the Cold War, chambered in 7.62x51mm. The M14 is still used as a DMR by the US Army and Navy, with modernized versions frequently showing up on the market. One such version is the “tacti-cool” SOPMOD model by Troy Industries, with a collapsing stock and modern polymer furniture. It is used by the 707th SMB.
EDIT: Part 3 is up

MAME 0.191

It’s the end of October, and time for the hotly anticipated MAME 0.191 release. This release includes an experimental Hitachi SH3 recompiler from frequent contributor David “Haze” Haywood that shows promising performance improvements for Cave CV-1000 emulation, and holds the tantalising possibility of bringing similar gains to systems based on the SH4 in the future (including Sega NAOMI). Bug fixes to the Saturn/ST-V emulation will enhance your enjoyment of numerous Sega titles from the ’90s. There have also been some optimisations and improvements to MIPS3 and Voodoo emulation, as used in a number of 3D arcade systems.
For fans of systems more often experienced at home, David Haywood also rewrote most of the Gamate emulation, taking it from mostly broken to (hopefully) best-in-class. We’ve also got some important bug fixes for the Tatung Einstein, the NEC PC-Engine console, and the M6809 CPU used by the Tandy CoCo family (among other things). Three more Tiger handhelds have been added for this release, namely Batman, Judge Dredd, and Swamp Thing. The hard limit of four emulated screens has been lifted, allowing you to plug in more video cards, more serial terminals, or just emulate systems that just have lots of screens.
We’ve got some big updates to the software lists this month, with plenty of Apple II cassettes, RM Nimbus software, and over seventy new PlayStation dumps. BBC Torch floppies and Gamate cartridges are now considered working, and Kiki Inland for Gamate has been added. A number of titles that don’t require a PC/AT have been moved from the IBM 5170 list to the IBM 5150 list. There are also some nice additions to the IBM PC and Fujitsu FM Towns software.
Of course, there are lots more bug fixes and newly dumped versions of emulated games. You can get the source/Windows binaries from the download page and start emulating.

MAME 0.189

What better way to welcome southern Spring/northern Autumn than with a MAME release? MAME 0.189 brings general improvements across a broad range of areas:
We are aware of the ongoing issues with the options system. If this completely breaks your use case, all we can recommend at this point is to keep using MAME 0.187 until the issues are resolved.
MAME 0.189 adds support for several systems that many of us won’t have had an opportunity to experience in real life. Possibly most interesting is the China Educational Computer I, an Apple II clone with more memory, Chinese language support (pinyin input), and a built-in Logo interpreter. Another interesting addition is the German Kontron PSI98, a Z80-based computer with fairly advanced features. Support for the BBC Micro Tube interface has been added, allowing the use of add-on coprocessor modules and by extension the software that takes advantage of them.
On the arcade side, the protection code/data for Gaelco’s TH Strikes Back has been dumped and the game now works. The microcontrollers for Toaplan’s Ghox and Whoopee have been dumped, adding sound to both games and fixing graphical issues in Ghox. The elusive world release DoDonPachi III has been dumped and added. Gaelco’s Football Power is also working in this release. Handheld LCD game additions have slowed down, but MAME 0.189 adds support for three Konami games: Garfield, Football Power, and Bayou Billy. Quite a few Mephisto modular chess computers are now working.
MAME 0.189 adds support for a whole lot of newly dumped alternate versions, bootlegs and hacks of arcade titles, and the usual assortment of fixes, improvements, and code modernisations. You can get the source/Windows binaries from the download page and try it out.

2017.07.31 16:21 joshadel Beginner looking for feedback on app design

I've been following rust for a while now -- skimming "the book", reading posts, docs and tutorials, etc, etc. Now I'd like to have a go at re-writing an app that I previously wrote in python as both a learning exercise, but also because it could be beneficial to have a standalone binary that does not rely on a runtime and a bunch of dependencies/a specific environment set up that would be easy to distribute. I was hoping to get some feedback/pointers about how best to approach this in rust (architecture, specific recommended crates, etc).
The app is basically a bot that reads and writes to several APIs at fixed intervals. Dividing this into tasks:
Each of these tasks run on a different schedule but typically once every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. All tasks are known at startup so there is no need to dynamically add/delete tasks or modify their schedule. This bot basically would run continuously.
There are a few obvious choices (I think). Serde to handle serialization/deserialization of the json to and from the HTTP APIs, chrono to handle timezone and date time manipulations.
The python bot uses APScheduler, which has a really simple API for task scheduling and I see that there are a crates out there to mimic cron-type functionality. I've been looking at Tokio since this bot is basically making a bunch of http requests that could be handled asynchronously via Hyper, but I'm haven't really found any good examples of how to fire events at a specific times that isn't driven by an outside request/connection, or how to set up a service that isn't like a network protocol. Maybe Tokio isn't the way to go with this, so I'm open to other recommendations. I've only found one non-network example in the wild for Tokio (https://github.com/Gozala/fs-watch-service) so I'm at that point where I'm trying to learn Tokio from the docs, but I can't quite see yet how to map the examples to my particular problem.
Any suggestions, links to relevant examples, etc would be very much appreciated.
